COFFEE KIOSK FOR MIAD’S LOBBY
Located in Milwaukee’s Third Ward is Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design. The school and neighborhood is a hub for artistic activity and rich history. At the time of the project in 2023, MIAD was in the process of renovating their lobby space to match other floors in the building. The coffee kiosk design would offer an opportunity for the public to come in and interact with the school.
The intent of my design is to provide a sense of playfulness and appreciation for artistry. Bauhaus architecture and Roger Dean’s artwork has influenced the structural elements of the kiosk. This kiosk pushes the limits between functionality and sculptural work. Being that it is set in an art school it feels appropriate to provide a sense of inspiration for creatives.
what we’re working with
Ash wood, steel, and black iron detailing is present throughout MIAD’s spaces. The preexisting materials are missing character which is an element the student body and neighborhood are known and loved for.
INSPIRation
Natural materials, sculptural forms, and a pop of blue help to bring life into the lobby space.
